One of my greatest regrets of the summer was forgetting my camera on our 4 night camping trip in the Olympic Peninsula. Aaargh. Fortunately, Mindy, who is a far better photographer than I, took tons. Unfortunately, I still don't have any to post. Aaargh.
Lance, Mindy, & Kaya made the long drive over from Idaho to join us. We were so grateful to have them along. Though we got a tent as a wedding present, this was its first real trial run. Camping in humid TX never had a lot of appeal to us. On the coast & lush forest, surrounded by snow peaked mountains . . . lots of appeal. Mindy & Lance are seasoned campers - they cooked up delicious feasts every night, helped keep Kaylee out of the fire (keeping her out of the dirt was futile), and didn't even laugh at our 4+ inch thick air mattress. The hiking, scenery, and relaxation were unforgettable.
I did however, remember my camera for a fun day trip we took with Lance's uncle. He owns (and used to live on) a sailboat. Presently he and his wife are preparing for a 2 year journey sailing the Pacific Ring of Fire. Wow. I enjoyed the day trip sailing the Sound, but I'm pretty sure I'd get claustrophobic and nauseous after much more. Danny, however, felt right at home on the boat. Uncle Brian even hoisted a small pirate flag for our excursion. Cap'n Danny was in heaven helping steer the ship, viewing the waves from the bow, exploring below deck, & maneuvering the ropes. Aaaargh!

Spencer would be jealous of getting to sail on a "real" pirate ship. Way to go Danny! Don't be too hard on yourself we have yet to do a family camping trip (in a tent) outside our backyard =)
