Camp Grandma

When my sister Anne married Rex, it was a perfect union . . . for the parents. My mom - a science teacher. Rex's mom - a science teacher. My dad - an engineer. Rex's dad - an engineer. The foursome couldn't have been more excited. The moms started formulating ideas for a Camp Grandma sometime during the engagement (well . . . maybe they waited until Leah was born). They would combine their biology (my mom) and chemistry (Rex's mom) expertise into a science camp for their grandkids.

After years of loosely throwing around ideas and 6 grandkids* later their dream finally came to pass this summer. Presenting Camp Grandma.

Two fun-filled days at Grandma Couch's house exploring bubbles, rockets, pressure, states of matter, bugs, & wildlife. Grandma Billings had t-shirts and science kits for every grandkid . . . even Kaylee! Sometimes writing out the scientific process got a little intense for her. :) Some highlights were a bug zoo, nature scavenger hunt, seeing who could shoot the rockets furthest, listening to stories, and eating the pressurized popcorn kernels. Everyone loved using their magnifying glasses and the huge bubble wands too. It was so much fun!
Thanks Grandma and Grandma for sharing your love of science. We're looking forward to the next time we can attend Camp Grandma!

*I was only 12 or 13 the first time I met Rex's parents so we have a long and happy history. They live nearby in Kent, WA, so now our family gets together with them a lot. Though they're not biological grandparents, they are definitely Grandma and Grandpa to Kaylee & Danny. We are so lucky to have adopted family so close!

Do they adopt full grown women as grandkids? Because I want to go!

Wow! What an amazing idea. Looks like everyone had so much fun and learned a lot. I can't believe how big your kids are getting. Has it really been that long? :)
